Tom Gayton

I am currently in the middle of my PhD supervised by Professors Henry French, Dr James Davey and Professor Laura Sangha, exploring life in the Seventeenth Century West Country. My thesis explores the ways in which loyalty was divided in rural, coastal, and urban communities across Dorset in the looming shadow of the first English Civil War. 

I am a qualified Teacher, Historian and Classicist with a firm research background, educational expertise and academic portfolio. I am interested in advancing my research and writing talents in the field of local studies, which has captured my interest for many years, using the skills I have developed at three UK universities: Royal Holloway, King's College London and Bath Spa.
