Archaeology and History
Master Sergeant Rikke Rietveld is a Battlefield Forensics Specialist in the Danish Armed Forces and currently serves in a NATO role in Latvia. She is also a PhD researcher at Cranfield University, where her work explores the evolution of battlefield forensics and develops a practical framework to improve collaboration between military, government and civilian forensic capabilities across crises and conflict. Her research draws on Action Research and Grounded Theory, grounded in exercises, workshops, interviews and practitioner engagement.
Rikke’s professional focus is the integration of technical exploitation, forensic collection, and information management into operational planning and decision-making. She contributes to multinational work on interoperability, including how evidence and exploitable material can support intelligence, legal processes, and humanitarian outcomes, including identification of fallen personnel and war crimes. She leads and coordinates international stakeholder engagement through the Battlefield Forensics Workshop series, bringing together practitioners, academics, and industry to produce usable outputs such as guidance, training concepts and coordination approaches.
