Archaeology

Dr Liz M Quinlan (she/they) is an archaeological scientist whose interdisciplinary work draws from the fields of archaeology, history, ecology, and palaeoenvironmental study. After graduating from the University of York with a PhD in Archaeology, they recently began a position as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Exeter, leading the AHRC Catalyst-funded project "Beyond Stockfish: Migratory and Freshwater Fisheries during the Rise of Early Modern Trading Companies".

She is an expert in the application of biomolecular analysis, including zooarchaeology by mass spectrometry (ZooMS) and bulk stable isotope analysis to archaeological faunal remains, specialising in fish and fisheries research. As part of her postdoctoral research project Liz will work with colleagues in the Centre for HumAnE Bioarchaeology to establish an active ZooMS research programme. Their research will also involve collaboration with the SHArD 3D Lab to integrate osteometrics, geometric morphometrics, and ZooMS analyses to understand more about past fisheries and historical ecology.
